Who We Are
We are an interdisciplinary research group focused on using digital technologies to take a proactive approach to health, with the aim of preventing illness and improving quality of life. We aim to achieve this through a variety of methods, including conducting innovative and groundbreaking research, delivering original and inspiring degree programmes and by holding demonstrations and events to increase community engagement.
What We Do
We use a combination of research, education and open platform development to further the Digital Health discipline.
Research
Our primary focus is to conduct groundbreaking research with the aim of improving public health and quality of life. We work with many leading organisations to do this, including the National Health Service (NHS). Our current research projects include smart spaces for active and healthy living and ageing, hospital mortality monitoring and predictive analytics and suicide prevention using analytics and cybernetics.
Education
As a member of Lancaster University we are committed to education, and as such working on defining curricula and degree programmes focused on digital health. The aim is to deliver these programmes by experts in the field and provide everything needed for the holders of these degrees to get started in a career in digital health. Such graduates will be highly sought after agents of change who will actually carry out the digital transformation in the health sector. We have started with a PhD designation in Digital Health offered to practising GPs who continue to practice part-time, and simultaneously pursue their PhD within the Digital Health group.
Platforms
We are currently working on the development of several open digital health platforms, including a smart house as a smart living platform, a cybernetic-informatics platform for mental health, and a platform for promoting the democratisation of personal health devices, apps and data.
